Meir Palace

Meir Palace

Meir Palace is a beautiful royal building in the commercial heart of Antwerp. This 18th-century rococo gem was built as a dream house for a wealthy merchant. The elegant city palace was later redesigned and adorned in new styles commissioned by its illustrious owners, including Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, king William I of the Netherlands and Belgium king Leopold II. You can explore the restored palace interior with its historical style furniture as a group outside of school holidays. Our palace guides’ original approach provides a fun and unique experience!

Would you like to end your visit with coffee and cake, lunch or a delicious afternoon tea? Then head to Café Louise, located in the dashing rococo salons on the ground floor of the Palace on the Meir. Reservations can be made via www.louise-antwerp.be, by email info@louise-antwerp.be or by phone 0496 65 64 51.

3 reasons why this is worth your visit

  • The people of Antwerp are extremely proud of their former ‘Royal Palace,’ but often don’t know that this stunning building was once even an ‘Imperial Headquarters’ for Napoleon Bonaparte. An impressive story and lots of ‘glitter and glamour’ await you here.
  • This city palace is the crown jewel of the Flemish heritage organization Herita, which cherishes it as an exceptional location for temporary exhibitions and events. Every visit to this small yet beautiful palace is therefore special, including yours…
  • Our experienced palace guides use a playful, dynamic formula to ensure your group visit isn’t a dull event: the somewhat unconventional tour ‘Palace for Sale’ is an interesting discovery journey that engages every participant with humour, delving into a rather unique history and involving them in a sometimes hilarious test of lifestyle and historical savoir-faire.
