Let the stories of a MoMu guide take you on a discovery of the MoMu collection, from contemporary fashion to historic clothing, textiles and unexpected accessories. MoMu houses the largest collection of Belgian contemporary fashion in the world. The new Collection presentation looks back on four decades of Belgian fashion, supplemented with a selection from the museum’s historical collection. Because of the limited size of the collection presentation, the guide will take you through the temporary exhibition in the MoMu Gallery on the first floor afterwards.

The exhibition gives an overview of the most important protagonists of Belgian fashion, based on the themes that characterise the distinctive nature of the MoMu collection: surrealism, craftsmanship, deconstructivism and a predilection for art, history and innovation.

Both the Collection presentation and the introductory documentary begin with the historical question ‘what does the label Belgian and Antwerp fashion mean today?’. The exhibition will rotate every year in order to show as much of the MoMu collection as possible and to make room for new stories. This way, the Collection presentation becomes an annual standing appointment that continues to surprise.

“Jan – Jan Van Essche – Kayal”
Starting from the Khayal collection (spring-summer 2025), Antwerp-based fashion designer Jan-Jan Van Essche offers a glimpse into his world. Garments designed by Van Essche embody a quiet dynamic. His generous approach does not follow the Western tradition of restricting freedom of movement. He offers every body, regardless of gender, age or norms, the space to shape the garment. Executed in artisanal fabrics made of natural fibres, his discrete creations stimulate our conscious awareness.

Is the museum wheelchair accessible and feasible for people with reduced mobility?

All of the public areas in the building (exhibition rooms, cloakroom, toilets, library, café and shop) are either on the ground floor or easily accessible by lift. Several seating areas are provided throughout the building and, upon reservation, a wheelchair is also available. Every visitor can make use of a portable folding chair in the exhibition rooms.

How can I reach the museum? Can I park my car/bike near the museum?

The museum is easily accessible by public transport. There are bus and tram stops within walking distance. Take the metro 9 or 15 from Antwerp-Central train station (Diamant) to the premetro station at Groenplaats. If you come by bike, you can use the Velo station in the Drukkerijstraat. MoMu does not have its own parking or bicycle parking. If you come by car, you can park in a public car park nearby or park for free on the Kaaien.

Can I take pictures in the museum?

Do not take photographs with a flash. Selfie sticks are not allowed. Always ask permission for professional photographic and audiovisual recordings.

Can I enjoy a drink or a meal in the museum?

There is a museum café where you can get something to drink or eat, either to consume inside the café or to take away. Groups as of 8 people can reserve a table via cafe@momu.be.

Is the cloakroom mandatory?

Backpacks are not allowed in the exhibition rooms. There are lockers with keys. Large groups can use a group locker.

Is there a museum shop?

There is a museum shop with fun MoMu products. Be sure to swing by!

  • You will discover previously unseen pieces from the MoMu collection
  • The expo shows different themes, typical of Belgian fashion from the 1970s to the present day
  • The pieces shown in the Collection presentation rotate at least once a year in order to show as much of the MoMu collection as possible, from contemporary fashion to historical clothing, textiles and accessories
