The popular St. Andrew’s quarter was nicknamed the ‘Parish of Hardship’. Until well into the 20th century, severe poverty and socially deplorable situations prevailed here. However, this was not always the case. Until the end of the 18th century, all of the distinguished guests who visited Antwerp stayed in this neighbourhood and the art treasures of St. Andrew’s Church reveal that this was once a home to wealthier people. Today, the district has been resurrected as a metropolis for fashionistas and flea market lovers.
