Together, the guide and the pupils will discover what life was like behind the scenes at a 17th-century patrician’s residence. Through careful viewing, studying, philosophising and debating, the pupils will gain an insight into society, art and day-to-day life in 17th-century Antwerp.

Our primary goal for this pupil target group is to discover a world that is comprehensible to them, since they also live in a society that is underpinned by such themes as social engagement, economics and the cultural context. Precisely the same applied in 17th-century Antwerp, although life was perceived in a different way then.
Based on their own experiences, pupils can discover parallels and differences, look for advantages and disadvantages and construct a critical dialogue on past and present solutions. The art works in the Snijders&Rockox House provide ample material to act as a starting point for discovery, with secular iconography and religious imagery, as well as portraits and scenes from nature.
Practical information:
- This guided tour is suitable for secondary schools (14 to 18-year-olds)
- Maximum 20 persons per group
- Duration: 90 minutes
- Museum admission: free of charge for school groups
