 Did you know that Rubens was also a talented architect? His remodelling of his home astonished all and sundry. Come and see the portico and garden pavilion and you’ll understand why. But what about the parts that no longer exist? Our guide will reconstruct them brick by brick.  

One thing is clear: Rubens loved experimenting with styles, to connect the past and the future. The modern entrance to Hopland would definitley have appealed to him. The design by Robbrecht and Daem architects is contemporary, while undeniably Rubens. Can you see the subtle references to Rubens the architect? Discover them all!

  • This guided tour is suitable for groups of adults
  • Maximum 15 persons per group, maximum 2 groups per timeslot
  • Duration: 90 minutes
  • This tour can only take place on Mondays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays
  • This tour can be booked in Dutch, English, French and German – other languages available on request

The museum is also closed on the following holidays: 1 January, 1 May, 1 November and 25 December
Can I leave the museum and come back afterwards, e.g. to go and have lunch in the city?

Unfortunately not. Due to capacity and security reasons, it is not possible to interrupt your visit to Studio Rubens and the garden. You can visit the library and shop for free.

Do I need to print my ticket?

That’s not necessary. Save a tree and show us your ticket on your smartphone. 

I left my tickets at home. What now?

Don’t worry! Just let the front desk know. Your payment will be registered in our system at the email address of the person who purchased the tickets. 

I am on my way but am going to be late for my time slot. What should I do?

First and foremost, don’t panic. If there is enough space, we will move you to the next time slot. This may mean that your visit is shorter. 

Children can enter for free. Do they need a ticket then?

They do. When you order, select a ‘-18 years old’ ticket. That way, we know how many people are coming, and you know for sure that your child can get in.

Can our group go into the garden for a while?

Only with a valid ticket. Definitely check in advance which guided tours include a visit of the garden. You can find them here. 

We have an experienced guide in our group. Can he or she do the tour (with their own audio set)?

Unfortunately not. Only the official guides of the Rubenshuis are allowed to accompany a group. 

  • You will explore the underlying story of architecture through the lens of Rubens.
  • You will learn to make the connection between the contemporary architecture of Robbrecht and Daem and the concepts of architect Rubens.
