We can hardly imagine it. And yet this happened in the 16th century. In fact, it took well into the 19th century before the Scheldt became definitively accessible again and port activity in Antwerp resumed.
During this walk along monuments, the quays and the river, we tell the story of this lifeline that made Antwerp the metropolis it is today. We take you to 16th-century, 19th-century and contemporary Antwerp. You get to know Antwerp as a port city in the past, present and future. That the Scheldt, the city and the port are inextricably linked will become completely clear during this walk.
This walk starts at the hip South and goes along the renewed Scheldt quays to the historic center of the city.
