Persecution of Jews in Antwerp during the Second World War
During the Second World War Jews in Antwerp were heavily persecuted by the German occupying forces. During this walk you will learn a lot about this Antwerp Holocaust. The route starts in Central Station and meanders through the Kievit quarter for some two hours. You will visit several of the locations that played an important role in this Jew-baiting and you will be told gripping personal stories relating to these locations.

These stories are told from different points of view: a deportee in the first razzia, a collaborationist, a cooperative police officer, … But some surprising characters will also be reviewed, such as the inventor of the typical Antwerp biscuit, the Antwerps Handje, and a child who hid out with another family for nearly the entire war. Also, the political background that made this atrocious drama possible is amply described.
