The Antwerp ghost walk is a storytelling tour that combines the best of an Anglo-Saxon ghost walk with a good dash of Antwerp flair and joking. You will discover traditional folk and ghost stories, taken to heart by the people of Antwerp and thus declared to be true. Their greatest tormentor, the Lange Wapper, is of course discussed, but does this terrifying figure also have a good side?
The classic ghosts all pass by: Mie Trottinet, Sus Antigoon, Mie de Dulle, … Each of them guarantees a punishing story, in which we also hear echoes of the everyday yet strange life in the city of yesteryear. Some remarkable true histories complete the story: events from our Golden Age often turn out to have a bloody edge.
Discover this dark past while wandering around the small streets of old Antwerp. Learn all about the fear that rises from the black water and grabs everyone by the throat. Fear of ghosts and spirits, murder, crime and retribution.
Through centuries-old sagas and legends, relive exciting and incredible stories about heroes and sinners. Follow their footsteps, see the city in a different light and it will never be the same again!
Practical information:
We tell exciting stories, primarily suitable for adults and young people. However, we do not make it about the most gruesome, so that it is certainly also possible to participate as a family with also younger children. For children younger than 10, some of the stories may be a bit complicated, but they will also enjoy the ‘spooky’ atmosphere.
No, it is certainly not a Halloween tour with dressed-up characters jumping out at you. We let the surroundings and the stories do their work. Being afraid mainly happens in your own mind.
We make a mixture of suspense and diversion: humour often proves to be the best weapon against all calamities. Some bits may be a bit creepy, but often the funny parts prevail.
The stories are based on old folk tales, which usually have historical roots, but it is the oral tradition that has shaped them. The fact that they belong to the collective memory gives them. We also tell some true historical stories which are dramatised, and clearly state the difference between the two types.
Make sure you wear warm clothes, as we will be outside all the time, and choose comfortable footwear to handle the cobblestones of the old city.
