How about visiting an Oosterweel construction site with your company or association? Or even a group of friends? That’s perfectly possible! As of now, the Scheldt tunnel construction site on Linkeroever can be visited with the Antwerp City Guides.

On the left bank of the Scheldt in Antwerp, Lantis is constructing the approach and mouth of the new Scheldt Tunnel in Antwerp. This tunnel is a crucial section of the Oosterweel link and completes the Antwerp Ring Road.

On the visit to the construction site you will learn more about the construction and the significance of the new tunnel under the Scheldt. A guide will accompany you to an observation tower for a unique view of the tunnel approach and its construction on Linkeroever. What a technical feat!

Practical information:

  • Duration: 120 minutes
  • Maximum 25 persons per guide (for safety reasons no exceptions to this rule will be permitted)
  • This guided tour is not suitable for wheelchair users or anyone with reduced mobility.
  • Access to the construction site is permitted only with a guide

What should you wear when visiting a construction site?

It is compulsory to wear long trousers, and advisable to wear sturdy footwear that you don’t mind getting dirty.

Does the construction site give wheelchair access?

No. You will need to be able to climb the tower stairway, which is approximately 2 stories high and there is no elevator.

What is the minimum age?

Participants of this guided tour must be at least 16 years old.

What is the maximum group size?

For safety reasons, we can only allow groups of no more than 25 people at a time. It is not possible to book 2 guides at the same time to accommodate a group of 50. You will need to book 2 separate visits.

  • Presentation about the Scheldt Tunnel as part of the Oosterweel Link
  • The size and complexity of the construction site make it impossible to organise visits within the construction pit.
  • To reveal the impressive works and their sheer scale to the wider public, an observation tower has been built approximately 2 stories high.
  • This tower gives an incredible overall view of the tunnel approach, the tunnel mouth and their construction.
  • Long trousers must be worn by everyone!
  • As this is an active construction site, it is advisable to wear sturdy, dirt-resistant footwear.
