Via the Siberia Bridge (do you know where that name comes from?), we walk to the beautifully landscaped Belvédère Park which offers us a phenomenal view of the Scheldt and Sint-Anneke beach. Here we illustrate why the port of Antwerp is so important, using some remarkable figures and facts!
At the ‘De Shop‘ we explain the very specific recruitment of ship repairers at the beginning of the 20th century and its consequences.
The Red Starline Museum reminds us of the millions of emigrants who left Antwerp for America to pursue their dreams.
From there we walk on and hear a little more about our historic harbor cranes. The oldest one you see here dates from the early 20th century but we’ll also tell you about how ships were unloaded here in the Middle Ages! At the MAS museum we end our tour along the Scheldt. Here you can fortify your inner self in one of the typical port cafes or cozy restaurants.
Expect cobblestones, rough surface and busy port activity, but equally to enjoy the tranquility we find by the water…
Absolutely worthwhile to discover this piece of Antwerp!
