Your guide walks you along a somewhat unusual trail: along the banks of the river Scheldt, the Eilandje and straight through the old Sailors’ District. At the same time, he also takes you through the fantastic story of the origins and growth of the historic city centre by the Scheldt.
The riverbank, the dunes and the canals have been transformed throughout the centuries. You will discover hidden parts of the city wall, beautiful façades, peculiar street names, the picturesque Napoleonic docks …
The magnificent St Paul’s Church is an eye-catching feature set amid nostalgic sailors’ bars, old warehouses, imposing port buildings and the city renewal along the river. The plans for the future of the old port neighbourhood are also expounded. And if you wish, your guide will take you through the red light district.
